Marty Sprague is a dance educator with over 40 years of experience. She has taught all levels, from early childhood through higher education. Marty Sprague has just retired from teaching dance at the Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex High School in Providence, Rhode Island, has been an associate professor at Brown University and an associate professor and clinical supervisor for Roger Williams University Education Department. Sprague has been involved in program and curriculum development, professional development, policy development and advocacy support for arts education in Rhode Island. Marty holds an MA in dance education from the Teachers College, Columbia University and a BFA in Dance from Boston Conservatory. She was the founding artistic director of the Chance To Dance program. She has written and reviewed dance standards at the district, state, and national levels. She is co-author, with Helene Scheff and Susan McGreevy-Nichols, of Building More Dances, Building Dances, 2ndedition, Experiencing Dance, Dance About Anything, Exploring Dance Forms and Styles, and Experiencing Dance 2nd edition . Marty has been honored by Dance Teacher magazine as 2004 Dance Teacher of the Year K-12 and by National Dance Education Organization as the 2005 Dance Educator of the year, K-12. Marty has served on the executive editorial board for NDEO's Journal of Dance Education, and for the Arts Education Policy Review.

John Sprague teaches guitar, voice, and electric bass. John attended Barrington College as a music major and has been a performer for over forty years. He has performed in opera and theater productions as well as in the commercial music field. He is currently teaching privately and playing bass in a worship band.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CATHERINE BODNER – BFA, Dramatic Arts;  MAT, Elementary Education 

Having performed for many years with companies such as The Rhode Island Dance Repertory Company and The Arabella Project, Cathy has a background in several dance techniques.  These include modern dance techniques, ballet, historic dance (medieval through renaissance) and Bollywood, in addition to tap.   She has taught at The Young People’s School for the Performing Arts, Salve Regina College, Jacqueline M. Walsh High School for the Arts, MJDC Center of the Arts, and Dancin’ Spirit.   

 

 In this TAP Dance course, we will learn and practice basic tap technique, and learn one or two dances:  a waltz clog and the Shim Sham.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dan Rivera (Classical Guitar) is a musician and entrepreneur by trade. He studied Music Performance at the University of Valley Forge, is part of his church worship team, and a business owner. Dan is passionate about giving back to his community and helping those in need. He also loves to travel, network, and acquire wisdom from anyone he meets.

Sara McQuesten (Drawing)

Sarah is a student at RIC who is studying Art Education. Her favorite type of art to create are paintings and drawings. She also enjoys learning about art history and loves visiting museums to learn more. Some of her favorite things are nature, hiking, and animals, especially her cat named Murphy. 

Class Description

This drawing class will center around the use of shapes and values to create realistic charcoal drawings. Charcoal can be messy (so don't wear your favorite shirt!) but is generally better for creating black and white value changes. In this class, we will begin with lots of practice exercises to learn how to use the material and train our eyes. For each project we will discuss each other's work in a thoughtful way. In the end, we will look at still-life setups using fun objects found at Curtain Call to make some amazing artworks!

Daddy Long Leggs (Dance HipHop)

 

Daddy Long Leggs is a native of Providence RI, Who has been a professional dancer for over 20 years, his claim to fame... "Breakin" (Known to the general public as BREAKDANCING) a legitimate street dance art form born out of the south Bronx NY In the mid 1970s, a dance style that has risen to world acclaim by the 1980's.  Breakin is Hip Hop cultures original dance style and has its roots in Jazz, and soul dances of the 1940's 50s and 60s, and of course mixed with Acrobatics. The musical genre of the "Bboy" consists of Jazz, Rock, Soul, R&B, Funk, Latin Rythyms, Disco and Of course Hip Hop music. Leggs started his journey in 1996, when the dance style was underground since it had died off in the late 1980's, he found his way and joined a local crew who since has become the front face for the RI Scene and accredited for its revival. Daddy Long Leggs has been dancing and teaching professionally for well over a decade and has traveled the US, Canada, South Americas and Europe, Hosting, judging competitions, lecturing and teaching workshops. He has also worked alongside/mentored with some of Hip Hops largest names in the dance and music world. Many numerous pioneers to list. Leggs prides himself on the foundation of teaching the aesthetics of how to break, but also its history and how to become ones own accomplished dancer. Leggs is also a DJ Who spins for many events. He has taught over 1000 classes, 500 plus students and has organized or appeared as a guest around the globe, Movie cameos, and has toured with other notable dance personalities. His love for dance is in teaching and passing on the solid gems of knowledge to young people who are aspiring to become Bboys or Bgirls!

Susan Sanborn (Costume Design) has been involved with theatre in New York directing, acting, set design and construction, and costume design and production (principal costume designer for more than 10 years). She was one of the founding members of the Huntington Baptist Church Theatre Company, Huntington, New York.
 
Susan serves as the Administrative Assistant and Staff Pastor at In His Image Outreach Ministries. She also serves on the Worship Team and in our Puppet Ministry. Pastor Susan enjoys worshiping the Lord through creative arts.
